In Act 1 we are told that there was a relationship between Abigail Williams and John Proctor but in Act 2 we learn the full extent of what that relationship is. I assumed from Act 1 that the relationship was more in Abigail's head however Proctor's wife in Act 2 confirms that something did happen between the girl and her husband when she worked for them. I've chosen Act 2 as the most dramatic moment within the play because even though there isn't a huge amount of shouting and accusations like in other parts of the play however we learn why Abigail acts the way she does later in the play- she tries to drive a wedge between Proctor and his wife because in her mind she believes that if she can't have him, no one can and so she accuses Goody Proctor of being a witch which leads to her being arrested. I feel as if Act 2 foreshadows the events that happen later in the book in terms of Proctor admitting to being influenced by the Devil as in this scene he admits to being alone with Abigail in Act 1The stage directions are important in certain parts as they tell us more about how the character is feeling more than their actual words. Proctor 'with solemn warning' tells his wife not to judge him which I think refers to not his affair with Abigail but rather he is telling his wife not to judge him when everyone finds out that he has been fraternising with the Devil. He is foreshadowing the events that are going to happen at the court in Act 3 and so is already making sure that his wife will be on his side and won't judge him. There is more telling as to what is going to happen later in the play when Proctor exclaims 'I confessed. Confessed!' He is talking about confessing about his affair with Abigail but this mirrors what happens towards the end of Act 3 where he confesses that 'God is dead' and he hears 'the boot of Lucifer'
